Bitsbox is a fun, interactive, hands-on, open-and-go resource that teaches basic coding for kids 6-12. We received review boxes in exchange for our honest review.
There’s a lot we need to help our kids learn as homeschool parents.
It’s not just the 3Rs, history and science (and art and music and …)
It’s not just shoe-tying and manners and proper hand-washing …
It’s how to live in a world that is new and changing every day.
Because I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, computer science happened once a week in a lab in 6th grade where there were 3 computers!
I didn’t learn about coding until college, and then it was one class, for a few weeks and just enough to make me realize that coding 1999-style was not a lot of fun.
Bitsbox is a learning system that teaches kids real coding.
And it’s a ton of fun.
The first box we received taught us how to put animals on a runway, how to explode a taco, and how to make a lion roar.
Since then, my youngest has enjoyed several more boxes, and each box builds on previous skills, so she is really getting an understanding of coding principles.
My favorite part, I have to say, is the Bitsbox binder – or ApperKeeper! – because it keeps everything organized and together. I think that’s really helpful because kids can always refer back to what they learned in previous boxes. Everything stays organized.
Plus, their printed materials have gorgeous illustrations and graphics that get kids excited.
What is Bitsbox?
Bitsbox helps kids create fun apps that work on computers, iPads and Android tablets.
First kids learn to program using a specific code, but then they can adapt and modify their apps, which is great for creativity!
Each month kids master a new concept like coordinates, variables, functions and motion loops.
Bitsbox is so user-friendly and truly an open-and-go homeschool resource.
Who is Bitsbox for?
Bitsbox is great for kids in elementary and middle school.
Fun fact: More than a million kids have used Bitsbox to create apps in more than 70 countries.
Do parents need to understand coding to use Bitsbox?
Thankfully no – because I sure didn’t.
But I do now! The games are so fun that I love working with my daughter and learning too.
Although, Bitsbox is great for independent learning too, as long as your child can identify numbers, letters and keyboard symbols.
Is there a way to try before I buy?
You can try Bitsbox for FREE here and then choose from 3 options including Basic Bitsbox (what we have), Deluxe Bitsbox and Digital Bitsbox.
Finally, Bitsbox has been kind enough to share a code with my readers! Use the code KARA20 to get $20 off any subscription purchase of $50 or more.
Happy coding, friends!
