I’m so sorry. I’m about to be “part of the problem.”
You know that problem when you’re homeschooling, and you see something new, and it feels all bright and shiny and exciting and the next thing you know, it’s in your Amazon cart?
So just know that you really don’t need any of these things.
I mean, you probably have a lot of your back-to-school planned, right?
But just in case … here’s what we are starting with this year.
Background: My kids are 9 and 12. My youngest loves notebooks and workbooks and well, books, especially this series. I mean she adores it, and we aren’t Catholic. (But now she wants to be.)
My oldest is an unschooler who devours encyclopedias, loves art and reads a ton too. Currently he’s on a huge autobiography kick.
We’re actually all really excited about starting math this year. This is unusual for many reasons, but when Sarah Mackenzie recommended these awesome math books, I got pretty goose-bumpy. I knew my daughter would love the idea of running her own pet store, but imagine my surprise when my little dude said these books looked great and he would love to open his own bookstore. So boom. Those went in the cart.
We’re also going to sprinkle in this series which was recommended by Julie Bogart. It looks fun and silly, and that’s always a good thing.
Our first read-aloud this year is From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler <— There’s a Brave Writer Arrow Guide to go with that!
- In no particular order, we’re going to be using Jamie’s book as a guide to geography this year.
- We’ll be studying Van Gogh and incorporating some of these kits!!
- BIG FAT NOTEBOOKS!
- Alicia’s amazing e-course Studying the Masters Course for Kids
- Duolingo for foreign language
- Studying history this way again!
And some other stuff. Lots of other stuff.
But I’m trying something new, where I plan one month at a time. You can read more about that here.
Also! I bought a paper copy of Julie’s Fall Gracious Space so I can get a little dose of inspiration every morning via her Facebook Live updates, which start next Tuesday, which coincidentally is the same day we are starting.
I’m out of control and I’m sorry.
And I love you and if it helps, I’m as overwhelmed as you are. Pinkie swear.
P.S. Want to see what we bought last year?
